Run a Useful Reservoir Check Today

  1. Measure at a consistent time. Check before topping up or adding nutrients, ideally at the same time each day. Record the date and time so morning and evening readings are not mistaken for comparable results.
  2. Test in a representative sample. Run the pump long enough to circulate the reservoir, then take a sample away from nutrient inlets and recently added pH adjuster. Rinse probes with clean water between tests.
  3. Record pH, EC, and solution temperature together. These readings influence one another. Note units explicitly—for example, EC 1.6 mS/cm and 21°C—rather than writing an unlabeled number.
  4. Mark the water level before changing anything. Measure the drop against a fixed fill line or reservoir scale. Then note whether you added plain water, nutrient solution, pH adjuster, or nothing.
